Eshabeta II Questionnaire For Prospective Fila Brasileiro Owners
Is the Fila Brasileiro the Right Dog for You? A new dog means added responsibilities. If you have decided to purchase a Fila Brasileiro, remember that owning a dog can be the beginning of an overwhelming responsibility if you are not well prepared. When you bring a Fila Brasileiro into your family you make a commitment to raise, train and care for your dog throughout its lifetime. This can mean a responsibility that spans the next 10-12 years. The following questions may help you decide if the characteristics of the Fila Brasileiro make it the right breed for you. Please return a copy of this completed questionnaire to us if you want to proceed to the next step of Fila Brasileiro ownership.
What Will be the Dogs Living Situation? Do you have the emotional stability and staying power to be a responsible owner for your dogs lifetime? Do you have a fenced yard? Do you have enough space to house the dog properly? How will you keep your dog under control? Barking and free-roaming dogs are a nuisance to neighbors, which endanger the dog, and dog laws forbid it.Do you own or rent your home? If you rent, will your landlord be willing to sign a statement allowing you to keep a Fila Brasileiro in the house? You must provide excellent quality 6 foot fencing preferably with hot wire on the inside Are you willing to do this?
Do You Have Time to Socialize and Train Your Fila Brasileiro? The Fila Brasileiro is a semi-active, intelligent large dog that requires early exposure to different people and dogs so that he will be tolerant later in life. The Fila Brasileiro requires training to channel his energy into useful activities. A puppy socialization or puppy kindergarten class is recommended for your Fila Brasileiro puppy. Formal obedience training in a group obedience class will help your Fila Brasileiro become a welcome member of the human/Dog community. How will you teach him the rules of the house? Chewing, barking, digging, house soiling, etc. are normal dog behaviors. Dogs usually continue these behaviors until effectively trained. Can your family accept this and be patient, kind and consistent during the teaching process? Please list any prior dog training experiences, breeds owned, and what happened to these dogs? Have you ever crate-trained a puppy? Yes No What are your feelings on crate-training? Are you a member of any breed club-regional, national, or international?
Have you considered the costs involved in caring for a dog? Yes No A new dog is a lifetime commitment and the cost of his care is a necessary consideration. Will your budget allow for the cost of food and veterinary care including annual veterinary visits for preventive vaccinations and physical exams? Yes No Will you be a responsible dog owner by providing vaccinations and spaying or neutering your pet? Yes No
Will a Fila Brasileiro Fit into your Lifestyle? The Fila Brasileiro likes to play and needs daily exercise. Daily walks will satisfy him (after 14 months of age) unless you are an avid runner who jogs five miles a day. A fenced yard is necessary to provide a safe area for you to exercise your dog, and keep people/animals out.
Will it be difficult to spend time and money to train and exercise? Yes No Will the dog fit into your routine or will it become an annoyance or burden? Who will be the one to walk, feed, clean up after train play with and groom the dog get him licensed and provide medical care? Be realistic, its a job for adults or responsible, older children. If you have children, can you teach them to be respectful of the new puppy? How many hours a day will your Fila Brasileiro be left alone? Is there a family member at home full time? The Fila Brasileiro is devoted to their owner. Keep in mind the Fila Brasileiro is a giant breed, joints do not close until 14 months of age; therefore, high concussion activities like jogging are not recommended before that age. Keen intelligence is a characteristic that can get him in trouble if boredom sets in. While many people must leave their Fila Brasileiro alone for eight hours while they go to their jobs, the successful owner limits activities that keep him away from his dog after work. The Fila Brasileiro likes to be included in all activities. So if you like jogging, hiking, running, biking, obedience training, nature and the outdoors, the Fila Brasileiro may be a good choice for your lifestyle. However, if you often work extended hours and are already over committed to family and friends, perhaps this is not a good time to be considering a dog at all. Do you have children? Have your children been exposed to dogs in the past? What Are Your Expectations and Goals for Your Fila Brasileiro Puppy?
What are you looking for in a dog? Are you looking for a dog of a certain size, conformation and markings? Do you have a sexual preference for your puppy?
