Subject: ALERT: Valley, ALABAMA....
Okay...here is the skinny, the information has been incorrect and a little
misleading. I think I have it straight now...
Lanett, ALA is the one that passed their BSL last night!!! NOT Valley, it
is thought that Valley, which is about 10 miles away, will be proposing a
similar ordinance by taking the lead from Lanett. Lanett got their idea
from Irondale, ALA ordinance.
The dogs banned are:
The dogs "Pit Bulls" defined as per breed (APBT,
AmStaff, Staffie, Bull Terrier) and Presa Canarios.
Marcy will be posting more on this and I should have the ordinance before
the day is out....I hope...grrrr
Although I was told via telecon a few minutes ago from ALA that the Mayor
from Lanett and the family of a dog bite victim are now going to take the
ordinance that they just passed to Montgomery to the Capitol and attempt to
lobby for a similar bill state wide....grrrrrr
portion of a note follows:
**NOTE** Rep Cam Ward has introduced HB164. This bill pertains to defining
dogs as dangerous and is not breed specific. The Alabama Humane Federation
is asking us to support that bill so that they may use that as an example
of an alternative to breed specific legislation in the hopes that
municipalities in the state of Alabama would model ordinances after that,
rather than BSL. I attached a copy of that bill.
The heat is on in Alabama!!!
