LOUISIANA PET EVACUATION BILL - SB 607
UPDATE: PET EVACUATION BILL (La. SB 607) On April 18, 2006 the Pet Evacuation Bill, La. SB 607, received unanimous support from the Senate's Judiciary "B" Committee. It was at times gut-wrenching. The audience heard stories about people whose lives were lost because they would not abandon their pets. These stories illustrate why this can never happen again and the importance of the pet evacuation bill. THIS WAS ONLY THE FIRST STEP. THERE'S MUCH MORE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. SB607 must now go before the Senate Finance Committee. If the Finance Committee passes the bill on, it goes to the Senate floor. If passed, it goes to the House of Representatives, is referred to another committee for a hearing and the process is repeated. After the bill passes both houses, it goes to the Governor for her signature. Governor Blanco has expressed concern that the bill can't be financed and that there's no money for it. We have to let Governor Blanco know why this is so important. Senator "Clo" Fontenot, the bill's author, is asking that folks across the state and country contact Governor Blanco and request her support of the bill. *** TAKE ACTION NOW *** 1) WRITE 2) CALL 3) E-MAIL 4) FAX GOV. BLANCO TODAY LET THE GOVERNOR KNOW WHY THIS BILL MUST PASS: This bill will save the lives of people because we're saving their pets. Passage of this bill will define Louisiana as a leader with this lifesaving, groundbreaking legislation. A lifesaving measure is a worthwhile expense.
