Amid pleas from emotional owners of pit bulls, Plaquemines Parish President Benny Rousselle vetoed an ordinance Thursday that would have banned the breed from the parish.

The Parish Council, which originally passed the ban 8-0, could vote to override the veto at its next meeting with six votes, but it also will have the option of adopting another law that would take action against "dangerous dogs" of any breed.
