In a move which is set to send shockwaves throughout the dog owning community, Dublin City Council has announced that it is banning with immediate effect, 11 popular pet dog breeds.

The breeds to be banned are:

English Bull Terrier

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terrier

Rottweiler

German Shepherd

Doberman

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Japanese Akita

Bull Mastiff

Japanese Tosa

Bandog

The ban only applies to dog owners living in council housing in the city. In light of increasing numbers of complaints from council residents, the council have opted to ban the breeds. It is reported that the council are concerned over litigation should a council tenant be injured in an attack from any of the above breeds.

If the dogs can not be provided with alternative accommodation cannot be found for they will be destroyed.
