California Veterinarians Against AB1634

This additional information just across my desk - in case you were wondering
who the California Veterinarians Against AB1634 are that I mailed about
yesterday  - they are a great group!
Only questions mailed me were about who they are and where is the website.
The group gives a website address and there is nothing there pertaining to
the AB1634.  Don't be alarmed, they are working on it.
(Jean Spengel, DVM, says none of them are webmasters - well they should have
married one like me!  Just kidding, sort of . . . )

I bet if the California Veterinarians Against AB1634 asked for help on their
website, they would get it in one day.  Let's ask around for them - contact
them if you can assist, my web guy is on the other coast this weekend with
family - he isn't going to be working .. . . darn.

Time is of the essence,

Hi.
Just to give you some information on California Veterinarians Against
AB1634, we are a group of veterinarians in San Diego who became involved in
this bill when it was originally presented.  We were one of the first groups
to get our letter out in opposion to the bill.  Although we are California
Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) members, we had heard nothing of this
bill prior to it's introduction.  We have been actively working to defeat
this bill because after research and review, we feel it is a poorly
conceived bill that will be counterproductive.  We have a letter of
opposition that was posted on the National Animal Interest Alliance website
(naiaonline.org) and has been signed by hundreds of veterinarians from
within the state of California.  (You can view that letter as well as many
other pieces of information regarding the bill on that website)
We originally hoped to convince the CVMA board of governors that this
bill should not have been sponsored by the CVMA without input from the
membership.  In addition, the majority of veterinarians do not support this
legislation.  When the CVMA failed to be convinced, we took the next step
and formally organized.  We are not requesting that veterinarians "join"
this organization.   We are merely using it as a vehicle to inform
veterinarians, many of whom know nothing about this bill, and give them the
opportunity to oppose it if they agree with us.
We are only trying to make it easier for veterinarians to reply to
their politicians if they agree with our position,- that's why we included
the pre-written letter.  If veterinarians wish to write their own letter,
that's even better.
If a veterinarian wants to know who stands with them, I suggest they go
to the naiaonline.org website and read the list.  There are currently about
400 veterinarians signed on and more are signing every day as they find out
about this bill.
Regarding our website, none of us are webmasters.  We are in the process
of getting the site up and running so give us a little time and we hope to
have an informative website for other veterinarians.
If you have any other questions, please contact me.
Jean Spengel, DVM

P.S.  Some of the other veterinarians actively working with our group
include:  Dr. Patricia Ungar, Dr. Brenda Phillips, Dr. Karen Seibold, Dr.
Sharon Vanderlip, Dr. Jack Vanderlip,
Dr. Roger Beck

Veterinarians Against AB1634

Doctors for rational, effective solutions to the pet overpopulation
problem.

Dear Dog and Cat Enthusiasts:

We are the newly formed group,- " California Veterinarians opposed to
AB1634".  While we have tried to convince the CVMA that the majority of
veterinarians do not support AB1634, they have continued their sponsorship
of the bill, adding to its credibility.

We are asking for your help.  We need more veterinarians to stand up
and let their politicians know that this bill is not the answer to the pet
overpopulation problem.  Please do the following:

1.  Go to your veterinarians office and ask them if they are opposed to
AB1634.  If so, ask them to go to the NAIA website and sign onto the list of
veterinarians opposed to the bill.  (Go to naiaonline.org and click onto
'California Veterinarians Speak Out Against AB1634'.  At the top of that
page, click onto 'Click here to add your name to the list of Veterinarians
Opposed to AB1634'. The NAIA website has additional information as to why we
think this bill is wrong and we encourage everyone to read it.)

2.  Download the second attachment and make copies.  Ask your veterinarian
and any other veterinarians in their office to each sign one. Ask them to
add their clinic name and address below their signature. Take the signed
letters and send them to your local senator's office so you are sure that
they get in the mail in a timely fashion.

3.  Provide your veterinarian with the email address and phone number of
your local senator.  Ask your veterinarian to email and phone the senator
and let them know that they are a veterinarian opposed to AB1634.  (You can
find your local senators information by going online to:
<http://www.sen.ca.gov/> www.sen.ca.gov . Click on "Senators" on the left
side of the page.  On the next page click on "your senator".  You can type
in your address and get the necessary contact information for your senator.

4.  Cross post this to any and every dog or cat club list that you have on
your email address list.

If you want this bill to fail, it is going to take your time and effort.
Please, help us defeat this bill.
