During the CKC Annual General Meeting, the CKC received the Judge's ruling on the constitutional challenge to Ontario's Bill 132.
This high profile case litigated by Clayton Ruby on behalf of "Banned Aid", (a coalition of five dog organizations, formed in 2005 to defeat Ontario's breed specific legislation) has brought much attention to the issue of responsible ownership and breed specific legislation in Canada.

The Canadian Kennel Club is pleased to report that a CKC Board-approved contribution of $5000 has been made to the Banned Aid Coalition in support of its constitutional challenge to the Ontario Pit Bull Ban - Bill 132.

Based on the 2005 Referendum results, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada signed the Certificate of Approval on May 2, 2007. Therefore, changes to the CKC By-laws came into effect as of that date.

A certificate of by-law approval effective May 2, 2007, has been received by the CKC and special note was made of two amendments which were not approved.

Members in good standing have the opportunity to propose amendments to the By-laws for the consideration of the membership in the 2008 Regular Referendum.
