Dear Friend,

Every year, 3-4 million homeless dogs and cats die in shelters in the United States. An
effective way to reduce this number is to make free or low cost spay and neuter programs available and teach responsible pet ownership.

Research has proven that mandatory spay neuter programs are dismal failure, resulting in even higher numbers of pets being surrendered, escalating euthanasia rates of healthy, adoptable animals and spiraling costs to taxpayers.

But disaster is looming for innocent pets in California, as the so-called California Healthy Pets Act (A.B. 1634), which mandates that most cats and dogs four months old or older to be spayed or neutered, has been introduced in the California State legislature.  This ominous bill is backed by powerful special interest groups and will result in untold heartbreak for California pet owners and the slaughter of innocent animals.

Please take action right away to stop the impending onslaught of shelter surrenders and euthanasia of innocent pets – A.B. 1634 is nothing short of a pet extinction bill!

Urgent! Supporters of this supposed “animal welfare” bill have organized large numbers of people to target legislators in an attempt to change their votes and push its passage.

They are even calling from out-of-state, and harassing particular lawmakers. We can't let rich, special interest groups out-hustle responsible pet owners and animal advocates on this pet extinction bill.

Legislators need to hear from their constituents—you!—so they know you oppose this pet extinction bill backed by powerful special interest groups.

"Hello, my name is [your name] and I'm calling from [your town]. I strongly oppose A.B.
1634, the so-called California Healthy Pets Act, a pet extinction bill.

The Healthy Pets Act is a mandatory spay/neuter bill, a proven failure that drives up shelter surrenders and drastically escalates the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets. The welfare of California's pets is very important to me, so I hope [your state assembly member's name] will vote 'NO' on this bill. Thank you."
