Subject: Mostro

Hello Dawna,
Hope all is well up there!
I thought I'd update you on how Mostro is doing in his training.  He's completed advanced obedience with flying colors.
This past week on 3 separate occassions, Mostro successfully completed a 100 yard recall.  The dog is heeled off lead, performs a down in motion, and the handler walks & runs 100 yards away.  The handler calls to the dog several times, NOT using the proper command.  The dog must wait for the correct command.  This is a very difficult exercise.
When the proper command is given, the dog runs to the handler 100 yds away, and sits in front of the handler, facing the handler.
During one of these sessions, a huge jackrabbit burst out of some bushes about 10 yards away from Mostro.  I was 100 yds away already.  Mostro spotted the running rabbit, but never broke his down!
I've seen many a finely trained German Shepherd break a command when tested with the same temptation.
Mostro is as controllable and responsive to commands as any dog I have ever owned or trained.  This is due to his breeding(temperament), and the way he was raised and trained(personality).
I wish you could see him perform.  He draws quite a crowd.
Take care, Jim

Subject: Mostro does it again!

Hello Dawna,
Hope all is well.

Recently in Phx., a burglar was killed by two pitbulls.  That's a long story, but the one I want to tell you came about as a result of the pitbull incident.

Reporters from the largest local TV news station here began calling around to find a trainer who knew about pitbulls and guard dog training.  They found me and after a phone interview, they decided I was their man.  I told them that a properly trained guard dog should be under control at all times, and obeying his master's commands should outweigh anything else he might want to do.

Well, of course they asked me if I had such a dog that I could demonstrate for them.
So, they got to meet Mostro.  As they approached my house, they stopped dead in their tracks as they were met by Mostro, who was behind a locked wrought iron door.  His message to them was quite clear, and they understood it.

The camera man and reporter were in awe of his size and power.  However, as I began to put Mostro through an obedience routine(including off-leash work), they were amazed at how he obeyed instantly, and remained focused on me, while watching them.  They agreed that such power and strength, moving gracefully under control was a beautiful sight.

Well, on 07-23-01 at 5pm AZ time, Mostro of Eshabeta became the first Fila Brasileiro to be broadcast into over 1/2 million homes in AZ on the 5pm news.  He was a huge hit!!  My phone began ringing right after our segment.

Throughout the interview, I emphasized control and safety.  I wanted to show them that a properly trained guard dog is controllable, safe, and responsive to commands.

I must say, when the camera started rolling, I felt nervous.  A half-million homes would be watching!  I gave Mostro a big hug, and whispered into his ear, "Ok, Mostro, it's you and me buddy.  Show them what you've got. It's time to shine!"

Mostro was perfection!!!  He represented K-9 Basic Training, Eshabeta Kennel, and most of all, the Fila Brasileiro breed, with dignity, honor and grace!  You should be very proud!  You bred him!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Mostro is as intelligent, controllable, and responsive to commands as any dog I've ever owned or trained!

Take care,
Jim
